Garam Masala

Garam Masala

Garam masala is one of the most essential ingredients in Indian and Pakistani cuisine. It is a blend of freshly ground spices that add aroma and flavor to the warm and spicy dishes.

This simple recipe for garam masala powder was given to me by my mom. She's been making her own homemade garam masala since she was a little girl. I also included a few optional ingredients that can be added for a deeper flavor, but are not necessary.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

I found this recipe on a website about a decade ago and made a few slight changes. When I make it, I always double up all of the ingredients and make two loaves at a time since it gets gobbled up quite quickly.

I have also used this one for quite a few kids parties as they love to top off the bread with a dollop of ice cream, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, cookie bits and more. You can setup a whole tray of toppings as a festive and fun activity for dessert time.

Kalakand

Kalakand

Kalakand is a popular Indian dessert made out of milk and cheese. It is also sometimes called Barfi or Cheese Squares. There are many different ways to make this with all kinds of flavoring. This technique I actually picked up from someone in a chatroom about a decade ago. Out of all the different recipes I tried, I liked this one best for its simplicity and rich flavor.

The trick to get the right consistency is to use the right amount of powdered milk. I have written 3 cups, however you should continue to add and stir until the mix starts to pull away from the sides of the pan and has a cheesy fudge like consistency.
